The Information Mapping® method

Analyse, organise, present

Information Mapping® divides the process of developing documents into three main steps:

  • Analyse. Analyse the purpose of the document, the audience needs and the types of information. This stage ensures task-oriented, reader-focused content.
  • Organise. Create an overall structure for the information, based on the results of the analysis.  Good organisation is essential to a consistent, predictable document structure.
  • Present. Clarify the information visually. Effective formatting helps maximise  accessibility.

Why is the method so effective?

Information Mapped® documents are written from the reader’s point of view. Information is structured and written to be as helpful as possible to the end user. As well as saving time, this reduces error rates and questions to supervisors or other staff.

Information Mapping® also assists the writer by providing a clear framework for what needs to be written to get their point across. It saves time and increases the quality of written work.

“This will be something which I can use throughout my work. It will help to structure my documents, help with organisation, and help with getting the message across clearly and effectively.”
